First time here! Came around 10:30pm, and it just so happen to be during reverse happy hour ( Select Games are free, $1 off wine by the glass and half off wings - they closed at 12). Everything was amazing. The wings were delicious, crispy and very fresh. Our waitress was very kind and helped us pick out wine by each of preferred taste . We got a rosé and an orange! ( we said we liked Prosecco and Riesling - they had no Riesling ) For entree's we got the Risotto and an off the menu Carbonara pasta ! Both were amazing and perfect for the chilly weather. I definitely suggest to check this place out. It wasn't too busy and the music was great the night we came! Service , food quality , ambience , and entertainment were all 5/5! Games included Pac-Man near the bathroom, 3 pin ball machines and Rampage .
This review is a little late as I went last month, but here it is. I went with a group of friends on a Monday night. Unsurprisingly a lot of the cool spots are closed on Monday, but this cool spot is not. As you walk in, Nonno's gives you an old school pizza parlor vibe - they have a reel to reel music player, arcade games, shuffleboard and more. We got sat in a comfortable booth, and got served promptly. For food we shared the mozz sticks, Maui Wowee pizza and Meat Head pizza. The sticks were huge and delicious. The mozzarella tasted fresh and the outside was crunchy. Both pizzas were delicious, but my favorite was the Maui Wowee - basically as the name suggests is their spin on a Hawaiian. Their pizza is pretty much tavern style - thin and crunchy. Other than food they also have a good cocktail list and of course beer and wine options. Overall this spot is a must try. The vibes and the food were just perfect. Also, we saw Chris Shepherd hanging out at the bar and I take that as a good sign!
We've seen this place driving back and forth Richmond Ave and was wary of trying it after seeing some negative reviews online, but we finally decided to give it a try upon returning from thanksgiving. They serve tavern style pizza, and have happy hour after 10 ish pm I believe! The staff was very friendly and gave us enough time to decide on our food. What we ordered * wise guy pizza $20 -- trying this made us want to try other pizzas too!! It's a very solid choice if you're not feeling too adventurous. * bada-bing chicken wings $12 -- the wings are big and I love the red pepper that gives a little spicy kick to the flavor. PlEASE order these. Vibe 9 /10 A very cute retro bar vibe going on, seems like a great place to hangout with some friends or a casual date night. (Also have two arcade machines so bring your quarters if you'd like to play) price $30 ish per person + tips & taxes party of 2 people I give 9/10 would definitely return! Would like to try their wine and some other menu items next time. 11/30/2024
We had no trouble getting a table around 7:30 on a Saturday. Ambiance was pleasant, service was friendly. I honestly would just come pack for the drinks, the frozen Negroni and frozen pornstar martini was soo delicious. The pizza was just fine, I think the style just isn't my favorite. If you're a fan of a really thin crust pizza it may be for you. We also ordered the mushroom cavatelli and a turtle cake inspired cheesecake. The cheesecake slice was very generous and it was super rich, definitely ideal to split between 3-4 people lol. The mushroom cavatelli was good too but it was more like an acidic mushroom pasta than a creamy one. Overall a fun experience!
Nonno's is such a cool, fun atmosphere. The retro feel and arcade games really add to the nostalgic pizza vibe. Service was on point, and the employees were so friendly. After loving Nobie's and Toasted Coconut, it was about time I tried this place out. Food wise, our table shared the Maui Wowee pizza (Hawaiian pizza w/ an added kick of smoked jalapenos), and the Meat Head pizza (capicola, pepperoni, and sausage specifically). Their pizzas are 14" Chicago tavern style, which has some of the best THIN crust pizza in the city. Don't sleep on the huge mozzarella sticks either. Paired with a couple cocktails, beer, and glasses of wine, our table had a great night of catching up over even better food. Would I come back? Most definitely! There is still a lot of the menu I want to try like the Build Your Own Pizza option, salads, appetizers, sandwiches, pasta, and for sure dessert next time. We even saw Houston chef and restauranteur, Chris Sheppard, dining here at the bar so they must be doing something right! Cheers!
The pizza had great flavor and the sauce had a deep rich flavor, compared to what I've seen other places. Imagine a flavor bomb like bbq sauce with a bold flavor. The mozzarella sticks were fabulous and crunchy. The overall restaurant was clean, well decorated and the staff was awesome. I see the complaints about the crust but that is just this style of pizza. It can be black but does not taste burnt. I have no complaints.
When you charge 22% mandatory gratuity for a large party, that's a no no. When you charge 75 cents to play a 30 year old racing game, Cruisin USA (1994), that's a no no. When you have delicious thin crust pizza, that's Nonno's. There's something about that place this gives good vibes. Not sure if it's the upbeat 90's music, the retro arcade games, or the old Pizza Hut lamps. Either way, I love it! We ordered the meat lovers pizza, fungus among us pizza, and spaghetti and meat balls (all made in house). My favorite was the fungus among us, because the mushroom, grilled onions, fried shallots, and cheese all went so well together. The meat lovers pizza was a nice contrast, which had old world pepperonis and sausage (slightly spicy, so not for kids). The kiddos enjoyed the spaghetti and meatballs, but I found the sauce to be a bit too salty and the noodles to be slightly harder that I'm used to. The meatball was great though! Just note that the inside is expected to be slightly pink (we thought it was not fully cooked). Expect to have trouble finding parking. It's a tiny parking lot. If you drive a full size truck or SUV, you'll appreciate your backup camera and distant sensors, because you'll need every inch. We witnessed a truck back up into another truck while trying to get out. Music is loud, but tasteful. We were still able to converse normally. Didn't like how the arcade games were so expensive. Maybe I'm just old now though. Pinball was $1, Rampage was $1.25, Cruisin USA was 75 cents. In comparison, Luna Pizza didn't charge for their retro arcade machine. I think after 10:00 pm, arcade games are free. Service was nice. No complaints here! I did not appreciate being forced to pay 22 percent tip for a large party. It was 3 adults, 2 kids, and one baby. I don't even pay that high of a tip at fine dining restaurants. Overall, I would still recommend this place. Fun vibe and good food!
Stepping into Nonno's feels like hopping into a time machine, straight to a nostalgic paradise. No reservations, no phone, just pure, old-school charm. So, if you're determined to snag a table, plan ahead and sharpen your planning & parking skills. Speaking of parking, it's a bit of an adventure. After circling the block a few times, teetering on the edge of surrender, I finally spotted additional parking... thanks to a half-falling-off sign. It's riddled with potholes, so drive like you're navigating a lunar surface. Once inside, it's like the '80s never left--cue the retro tunes, arcade games and cozy setup. Quick tip: if you're prone to the chills, bring a sweater. It's cooler than a Houston summer day, but hey, that's not a bad thing. The seating is a mix of booths, small tables, and a bar, so there's a spot for everyone--from lone wolves to lively packs. Show up early though; at 6 PM on a Friday, this place was already hopping. Now, let's dive into the menu. First, the drinks: I kicked things off with a Bicycle Thief. Gin-forward, with a bit of a kick--like someone slipped a pepper in there. Refreshing, but not a showstopper. 3/5. Next up was the Taylor Street Rita, a margarita with an Italicus twist. This one hit the spot, definitely worth a second round. 4/5. Appetizer time! The kale salad stole the show--crisp, flavorful, and surprisingly filling. Even though we shared, I almost polished it off myself. Big enough for three or four, but you might want to keep it to yourself. 5/5. As for the pizza, I stuck with the classic pepperoni, and it didn't disappoint. Thin crust, just the right amount of grease. 4/5. The Broccoli Garlic was a surprise--garlic butter, broccoli, lemon ricotta... it was an unexpected but delicious combo. 4/5. Service? Spot-on. Friendly, fast, and attentive. The only downside was the noise level--my friend was practically shouting in my ear, so if you're hoping for a quiet chat, you'll find yourself shouting over the 80's & 90's soundtrack and happy diners. In short, Nonno's (Grandfather's) is a blast from the past with solid pizza, good drinks, and a homey atmosphere. It's earned a spot on my pizza rotation.
Thin crust pizza, fresh made pasta, and even a few arcade games. It's hard to go wrong with that combination. The pizza crust is super thin but still somehow able to hold its own against all of the delicous toppings. Fungus among us pizza: sauteed/roasted onions and mushrooms have never tasted so good before. This is combo is full of flavor and is delicious. Meat head: pepperoni, sausage, and capicola are classic toppings that do not disappoint. Spaghetti and meatballs: our waitress told us the pasta is all made fresh in house and the difference is certainly noticable. When I cut the meatballs open, I was really concerned because it was pink inside. But then our waitress informed us the meatballs are a mix of really high quality beef and pork and assured us they were fully cooked. Phew! There are a few games around like a racing game and pinball machines. Very fun place for the whole family.
